The Lord Baltimore Hotel is a timeless landmark, built in 1928 and located in the heart of downtown Baltimore. It is a beautiful example of an early 20th century high-rise hotel, and is one of the 10 most haunted places in the city. The two-story lobby offers guests a glimpse into the grandeur of the past with brass details, majestic columns, and tasteful furniture. The hotel has a long and tragic history behind its name.
It was named after George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore and founder of the Maryland Colony. In 1958, despite the Baltimore City Council failing to pass a law to end racial segregation in public accommodations, the Lord Baltimore Hotel voluntarily ended its restrictive policies for guests. After pressure from the progressive mayor of Baltimore, Theodore McKeldin, the hotel agreed to rent rooms to black baseball players and some conference attendees. In 1982, the Lord Baltimore Hotel closed its doors to an uncertain future. However, it was later restored to its former glory by the Rubells, who renamed it the “Lord Baltimore Hotel”.
Today, it offers stylish rooms and suites, a restaurant, a rooftop bar, a fitness room, and exceptional art galleries, museums and theaters. It is also perfect for romantic getaways or family vacations, as it offers a wealth of exciting outdoor activities to enjoy. Guests can also get rejuvenating treatments at one of these serene destinations or enjoy an exciting celebration at this historic hotel. There is also the Cruise and Stay Package which includes one night stay with valet parking throughout the cruise and transportation to and from the Port of Baltimore.
